Introduction to R Course Overview

R is an easy-to-learn, multi-purpose programming language that is used for statistics, data analysis and machine learning. This Introduction to R course provides an overview of the R programming language, laying the foundation for further learning. The delegates will learn about the characteristics of R and how it compares with other programming languages. They will also receive instruction regarding the installation and use of R and the popular editor RStudio.

There are two parts to the course. The first part covers background information that every professional R programmer should know, upto and including how to install the interpreter, an editor and run R in script and interactive modes. The second part introduces R's data types and main data structures including Vectors, Matrices, Lists and Data Frames.

Approach:

Course delivery has two modes, the first part is delivered mainly by slides. The second is a hands-on interactive session. Delegates will code along with the instructor on RStudio.

Course Objectives

This course is intended to provide delegates with an understanding of R as it relates to other programming languages, and to equip them with the basic knowledge and skills needed to progress & how to setup the environment, code in the REPL shell, write and execute an R script.

Who will the Course Benefit?

This Introduction to R course is designed as an orientation session. It is meant for people who want to gain some idea of what R is, how it works, and how to set-up and get started.
