You'll learn to use Vim confidently for editing configuration files and apply tools like grep, sed and regular expressions for efficient content manipulation. You'll also develop skills in writing basic shell scripts and using cron, at and systemd timers to automate routine administration — helping you save time and reduce manual errors in daily operations. 

Managing users, processes and access

Understand how to manage users, groups and authentication in a secure, structured way. You'll explore access controls using ACLs, extended file permissions and LDAP integration to support centralised identity management. In parallel, you'll learn to manage system processes, set priorities and monitor activity to keep systems running efficiently and securely in multi-user environments. 

Storage and system security

Gain practical experience in managing disk partitions, logical volumes and layered storage using LVM and Stratis. You'll learn to configure encrypted storage, create swap space and implement secure storage practices. This module also covers firewall configuration and SELinux management, giving you the tools to safeguard services, control access, and respond to security events confidently. 

Network services and container operations

Configure key network services including Apache, Samba, NFS, AutoFS and FTP, and set up DNS client access. You'll manage and secure these services using SELinux and firewalld. Finally, the course introduces container management with Podman, Buildah and Skopeo, preparing you to work in hybrid environments where service delivery and automation go hand in hand.
