Oracle Database 19c RAC and Grid Infrastructure Administration

Reduce downtime and optimise database performance

This course provides a comprehensive introduction to the tools, processes and techniques needed to run Oracle’s database platform. Through practical exercises you’ll gain the skills to keep business-critical databases resilient, scalable and secure, reducing downtime and supporting seamless operations.

Learning objectives
  • Install and set up Grid Infrastructure (Oracle's cluster software)
  • Build and manage Real Application Clusters (RAC) databases
  • Use ASM (Automatic Storage Management) via command line and GUI
  • Keep RAC systems running at their best
  • Set up services for workload and HA (High Availability)
  • Fix Clusterware and OCR (Oracle Cluster Registry) problems
  • Handle backup and recovery with RMAN (Recovery Manager)
  • Move from single instance to RAC

What you’ll learn

This course gives you the tools needed to manage RAC (Real Application Clusters) setups. You'll learn RAC basics, services, backups, troubleshooting and more, gaining the practical skills to ensure reliable, high-performance database environments.

Grid Infrastructure essentials

Oracle Grid Infrastructure forms the foundation for RAC. In this course, you’ll examine how Oracle Clusterware and Automatic Storage Management (ASM) operate together to support a cluster environment. Work directly with shared storage, learn how files are managed across nodes, and configure the core services required for smooth operation. By the end, you will have a clear understanding of how Grid Infrastructure functions and the skills required to manage it effectively.

RAC database administration

Learn how to configure Oracle RAC databases, fine-tune settings for performance and stability, and manage critical components including redo logs and undo tablespaces. Explore both policy-managed and admin-managed configurations and see how services can be used to balance workloads.

Monitoring and troubleshooting

RAC environments offer significant advantages, but they require careful monitoring to avoid potential issues. Learn how to detect problems early and address them efficiently. Using tools such as Enterprise Manager, AWR reports, cluster logs and operating system utilities, you will develop the ability to identify and resolve issues promptly. The course covers approaches to investigating and rectifying common RAC challenges, ensuring the environment remains stable and efficient.

What’s included
  • Five days of instructor-led training in a live virtual classroom
  • Interactive hands-on live labs
  • All relevant course materials
  • Course completion certificate
