What you’ll learn

Dive into real-world performance tuning, from speeding up slow SQL to improving how memory and storage behave. You’ll use Oracle’s diagnostic tools, understand how to monitor performance, and learn how to fix problems before they escalate.

Performance diagnostics

Learn how to diagnose performance issues before they impact your users. Explore key dynamic performance views, wait events, time models, and logs to get insight into the inner workings of your database. We'll show you how to use the SQL Performance Analyser to assess the impact of changes, capture tuning sets, and compare results, all of which contributes to more informed decision-making.

SQL tuning techniques

Develop a strong understanding of SQL tuning by learning how to use tools such as Explain Plan, Autotrace and SQL Trace to examine execution behaviour in detail. Learn how to identify inefficient SQL statements, apply appropriate indexing strategies, and use hints to influence the optimiser’s decisions. The course also introduces SQL rewriting techniques and provides guidance on analysing statement performance to identify and address execution bottlenecks, enabling more consistent and efficient query performance.

Memory and storage tuning

Discover how to maximise your Oracle memory and storage setup. You'll learn how to configure and tune memory components like the PGA, SGA, and buffer cache, along with strategies for automatic memory management. We’ll also cover tuning the shared pool, using memory advisors, managing temporary space and reducing I/O contention, so your systems remain responsive and efficient.
