Oracle Database 18c RAC and Grid Infrastructure Administration

Develop Oracle RAC skills to manage clustered databases effectively

Over five days, you’ll build your understanding of Oracle clustered database architecture. Designed for experienced administrators, our course will enhance your skills in planning, deploying and managing RAC databases. Giving you the expertise to optimise performance and increase database resilience within complex enterprise environments.

Learning objectives
  • Install and configure Oracle Grid Infrastructure
  • Deploy and manage RAC database clusters
  • Use ASM for storage management
  • Monitor and tune RAC performance
  • Configure database services and workload management
  • Apply backup and recovery strategies
  • Troubleshoot Oracle Clusterware and RAC components
  • Understand Oracle RAC One Node and multitenant features

What you’ll learn

You’ll gain the confidence and capability to install, configure and maintain RAC and Grid Infrastructure using Oracle 18c. Through expert guidance and practical exercises, you’ll become proficient in performance tuning, high availability, and troubleshooting in complex, enterprise-level environments.

Installing Grid Infrastructure

Learn how to install and configure Oracle Grid Infrastructure to support clustered environments. You’ll cover pre-installation tasks, validate system readiness, and manage disk storage with ASMFD, ASMLIB and udev. Giving you the confidence to build a strong foundation for RAC databases by setting up shared storage, configuring networks and implementing Oracle Clusterware.

Creating a RAC database

Gain the skills to build Real Application Cluster (RAC) databases using Oracle DBCA. Discover how to configure shared storage, assign nodes and set RAC-specific parameters, while also learning how to convert single-instance databases to RAC. By the end of the course, you’ll have the knowledge to deploy scalable, high-availability Oracle database environments across multiple nodes.

Administering Cluster Components

Understand how to use the tools for managing Oracle Clusterware and maintaining high availability. You’ll learn how to control CRS services using crsctl, back up and restore the OCR and voting disks, and troubleshoot using logs and diagnostic tools. Equipping you with the skills to sustain RAC environments and respond to system failures effectively.

Managing ASM Instances

Develop your ability to manage Oracle Automatic Storage Management (ASM) in clustered environments. You’ll use tools including asmca, asmcmd and srvctl to administer ASM instances, configure disk groups and implement redundancy. Ensuring have the expertise to deliver scalable, fault-tolerant storage solutions for Oracle RAC infrastructure.

FAQs

Our five-day advanced Oracle Database 18c RAC and Grid Infrastructure Administration course covers Grid Infrastructure and RAC administration in depth, with practical, scenario-based training across key Oracle 18c features.

What is the difference between RAC and Oracle Grid Infrastructure?

Oracle RAC enables multiple instances to access a single database, improving scalability and availability. Grid Infrastructure includes Oracle Clusterware and ASM, providing the platform for RAC. This course covers both technologies in depth, equipping you to build, configure and maintain clustered environments that meet enterprise performance and resilience requirements.

Do I need to know ASM before attending?

No prior ASM knowledge is needed. This course introduces ASM architecture and tools such as asmca, asmcmd and srvctl. You’ll learn how to create and manage disk groups, explore redundancy features and gain practical experience managing ASM in RAC environments, ideal for helping you modernise Oracle infrastructure or transition into clustered deployments.

Does the course cover RAC performance tuning?

Yes. You’ll learn how to monitor and optimise RAC performance using tools including AWR, Statspack and Oracle Enterprise Manager. The course explores RAC-specific metrics, cache fusion, wait events and node diagnostics. During our live labs, you’ll also develop practical strategies for identifying and resolving bottlenecks in clustered Oracle database environments.

Will I get hands-on experience with RAC and ASM?

Yes, the course includes live lab exercises across all modules. You’ll install, configure and troubleshoot Oracle RAC and ASM using tools such as DBCA, crsctl, asmcmd and RMAN. This practical learning approach ensures you develop the skills and confidence needed to manage real-world clustered Oracle environments

Can I use these skills in Oracle 12cR2 and 19c environments?

Absolutely. While the course focuses on Oracle 18c, the skills and tools you’ll learn, such as RAC setup, ASM administration and Clusterware management, and be applied to 12cR2 and 19c environments. You’ll also explore version-specific differences, making this training valuable for managing mixed-version Oracle infrastructures or planning upgrades.
