Oracle Database 12cR2 RAC and Grid Infrastructure Administration

Build strong and efficient Oracle RAC systems with enhanced technical skills

Gain valuable Oracle database insight with this five-day, instructor-led course. Acquire real-world skills in planning, deploying and managing Oracle RAC in a Grid Infrastructure setup. With an Oracle expert to guide you, you'll soon learn how to boost performance, improve availability and keep clustered environments running smoothly.

Learning objectives
  • Install Oracle Grid Infrastructure
  • Configure Oracle RAC databases
  • Use ASM for clustered storage
  • Manage RAC services and workload
  • Monitor and tune performance
  • Perform RAC backup and recovery
  • Troubleshoot Oracle Clusterware
  • Administer multitenant RAC architecture

What you’ll learn

With our interactive live lab setting, you’ll examine the key essentials of configuring, administering and optimising Oracle RAC databases across multiple nodes. Expert tutors will guide you through improving performance, managing workloads, and handling real-world scenarios with confidence.

Installing grid infrastructure

Become proficient with setting up Oracle Grid Infrastructure, the backbone of a stable RAC system. You’ll be guided through the setup process, from preparing your servers to checking the installation. Learn what tools and files like the Voting Disk and OCR do, and how to make sure systems are running properly. This is a practical course that gives you the confidence to build a solid, high-availability Oracle cluster from start to finish.

Creating RAC databases

You’ll learn how to create and run RAC databases that work across multiple servers. Using Oracle’s DBCA tool, you’ll configure everything from scratch: redo logs, undo tablespaces and key RAC settings. You’ll discover the differences between policy-managed and admin-managed setups and find out how RAC handles database traffic. By the end of the course, you’ll know how to build a database that’s reliable, scalable and ready for production use.

ASM storage and disk groups

On this course, you’ll become familiar with ASM, Oracle’s built-in tool for managing disk storage across your cluster. You’ll find out how to set up and look after ASM instances and disk groups using tools like asmca and command-line commands. You’ll learn how to make your storage more efficient and reliable, and how to fix common issues so you can keep your Oracle RAC system running smoothly.

FAQs

This advanced, hands-on course is tailor-made for experienced DBAs who want to improve their knowledge of Oracle RAC and Grid Infrastructure environments.

How is an RAC database different from a regular Oracle database?

A regular Oracle database runs on one server. With RAC (Real Application Clusters), your database runs across multiple servers at once, so if one fails, the others keep systems running. It also helps with performance by sharing the workload. In this course, you'll see how an RAC database works and how to set it up properly.

Do I need to know ASM before I start?

No. If you have a solid understanding of Oracle and Linux, we’ll take you through ASM essentials. You’ll learn what ASM is, how it works, and how to use it to manage storage in a RAC setup.

Will the course help me tune and troubleshoot RAC?

Yes, it will. You’ll learn how to spot and fix common performance issues using tools like Enterprise Manager, AWR and ASH. We’ll also cover how to keep things running smoothly between nodes and what to do if something goes wrong with your RAC or Clusterware setup.

Does the course cover high availability and failover?

Yes. You’ll learn how RAC provides high availability and how to configure automatic failover using Clusterware and connection failover techniques.
