Everything you need to be an indispensable DBA when it comes to backup and recovery.

RMAN essentials

This course gives you a solid foundation in using Recovery Manager (RMAN), Oracle’s core tool for backup and recovery. You’ll learn how to perform full and incremental backups, manage image copies, and use retention policies to keep your system clean and efficient. Whether you’re backing up to disk or tape, RMAN reduces complexities. You’ll also gain useful experience with configuring control file auto backups, allocating channels, and integrating with media management systems, all key tasks for any Oracle DBA handling backup and recovery duties.

Flashback technology

On this course, you’ll learn how to rewind your database to a previous state without restoring from backup. You’ll explore Flashback Table, Flashback Database, and Flashback Query, all designed to recover from accidental deletes or updates. You'll also understand how to use restore points and monitor flashback logs for space management. This practical knowledge is important for Oracle DBAs who want to reduce downtime and recover quickly from user errors.

Advanced recovery scenarios

Beyond the basics, this course takes you through complex recovery situations, from restoring lost control files to rebuilding your database on a new host. You’ll practise disaster recovery steps, including encrypted backup restores, point-in-time recovery, and duplicating a database for testing or reporting. FAQs

If you're an Oracle DBA, this focused course is a great way to expand your understanding of RMAN, Flashback and disaster recovery. You'll build the skills to confidently back up, restore and duplicate databases across 12cR2, 18c and 19c.

Will this course help me handle real recovery issues at work?

Yes, it’s all about real situations you’re likely to face. You’ll learn how to back up and restore with RMAN, fix problems like lost files or corrupted blocks, and recover from system failures. You’ll also try out disaster recovery steps in the labs, so you’re not just learning theory, you’re acquiring your new skills as you learn.

Do we get to use encryption for backups?

Definitely. You’ll use both transparent and password-based encryption to secure your backups; a must if you're dealing with sensitive or regulated data. The course has many practical elements, so you’ll practise setting it up and restoring encrypted backups too.

What’s covered with Flashback?

Flashback features enable the ability to fix mistakes without needing a full restore. You’ll learn how to roll back tables, undo dodgy transactions, recover dropped tables and even rewind the whole database to a previous point in time. Plus, you’ll get to reinforce your new skills in live labs.

Can I practise duplicating a database?

Yes. We’ll guide you through using RMAN to create duplicate databases, effective for test environments or cloning production for reporting. You’ll even look at how to do this without needing a connection to the original system.
