Build Red Hat administration skills that make a professional impact

This five-day course equips you with a core understanding of Red Hat 10 system administration. You'll develop the confidence to manage Linux systems at scale using command-line tools and graphical interfaces, plus explore systemd service management, logging and journaling, RAID concepts, and package management using RPM, yum and dnf.

Learning objectives
  • Manage files and navigate the Linux filesystem
  • Administer users, groups and permissions
  • Configure and troubleshoot networking
  • Use systemd to manage services
  • Build and manage virtual machines
  • Work with SELinux and system security
  • Control system logging and performance
  • Manage software with RPM, yum and dnf

What you’ll learn

You’ll learn to administer Red Hat systems using modern tools and best practices. Covering everything from user management to networking and virtualisation, this course gives you the knowledge to operate Linux systems confidently in any enterprise environment.

Getting started with Linux

Start by exploring the foundations of Linux, including its origins, structure, and key components such as the GNU project and Bash Shell. Learn the distinctions between Linux and other operating systems such as Windows. You'll also practise logging into Linux, working with virtual terminals and desktop environments like GNOME, and accessing key system utilities. This context sets the stage for productive, confident administration.

File system navigation and permissions

Master the Linux file system hierarchy and how to move confidently within it. Learn to create, copy, move, and delete files and directories. Explore symbolic and hard links, plus locate files using powerful search tools. This course also covers Linux file and directory permissions, including setting and modifying access controls, understanding default permissions, and using extended permissions.

Networking and remote access

Gain practical experience configuring both IPv4 and IPv6 network settings, including static and dynamic addressing. Learn how to assign hostnames, analyse traffic with packet capture tools, and set up network time synchronisation using NTP and NTS. You’ll also explore how to connect securely to remote systems using SSH and graphical desktop tools. By the end of this course, you’ll be ready to manage connectivity and remote administration tasks with confidence.

Logging, monitoring and software management

Understand how to monitor system performance and ensure reliability. Learn to view, rotate and analyse system logs using traditional tools and the systemd journal. You’ll also monitor CPU and memory usage, identify processes, and manage them safely, including how to kill rogue processes. For software management, you’ll work with RPM and yum/dnf to install, update, and verify packages, manage repositories, and understand dependency resolution, all key skills for maintaining system integrity.

Yes, it’s specifically designed for those with little or no prior Linux experience. Whether you’re coming from a Windows or macOS background or stepping into system administration for the first time, this course builds up from foundational concepts.
