Create accounting and transfer to General Ledger

Learn how to generate and manage accounting entries from Oracle subledgers using the Create Accounting process. You’ll work with both draft and final modes, understand how to troubleshoot accounting issues, and run key reports like Journal Entries and Period Close Exceptions. This module also covers how to transfer journal entries seamlessly into the General Ledger, providing you with full visibility of how subledger transactions are recorded and reconciled in your financial system.

Using AMB

Dive into the Accounting Methods Builder to define, modify and apply accounting rules that match your organisation’s needs. You’ll review Application Accounting Definitions, explore transaction and accounting chart configurations, and learn how to adapt accounting treatments using the Copy and Modify functions. This interactive session helps you gain control over how accounting rules are applied within Oracle R12 Financials, ensuring compliance, consistency and accuracy across your finance function.

Manual journals and SLA inquiries

This topic focuses on creating, managing and posting manual journal entries within the Subledger Accounting module. You’ll practise inputting journals, performing reviews, completing and duplicating entries. The session also includes running SLA inquiries and drilldowns - helping you trace transactions back to their origin and validate entries at a detailed level. By the end of this module, you’ll understand how to maintain journal integrity and handle exceptions with confidence.

Multiperiod accounting and accruals

Explore how to manage more complex financial periods and transactions with tools like multiperiod accounting and accrual reversals. What is Oracle Subledger Accounting?

Oracle Subledger Accounting (SLA) is an intermediate layer that sits between Oracle subledgers and the General Ledger. It captures accounting events from transactions and applies custom rules to generate consistent, auditable journal entries. SLA is used by finance professionals responsible for financial reporting, compliance and audit preparation, as well as Oracle system administrators and functional implementers who configure and maintain financial systems. It's especially valuable in organisations using Oracle Payables, Receivables, Assets or other subledgers, where traceable, rules-based accounting is essential.

What can I do after completing this course?

You’ll be able to confidently manage accounting configuration and transactions in Oracle R12 Financials. This supports roles in finance operations, system support, or Oracle functional consultancy. The skills gained provide a strong foundation for more advanced training. Many learners go on to attend Oracle R12 Essentials for Implementers to deepen their understanding of setup and configuration, or Oracle R12 System Administration to build broader capability across the platform. These follow-on courses help support career progression into senior finance systems roles or implementation-focused positions.

What’s included in the training session and will I receive Oracle R12 Financials Certification?

You’ll receive instructor-led training, live lab access, workshop exercises, post-course reference materials, and opportunities to engage with trainers and ask course-specific questions. At the end of the course, you’ll also received a certificate of attendance issued by StayAhead.

Do I need access to Oracle Financials before taking this course?

No. You don’t need prior access to Oracle Financials to take part in this course. Training is delivered using a live lab environment based on Oracle’s standard Vision database (R12.1.3), allowing you to gain hands-on experience throughout the session. While some familiarity with Oracle eBusiness Suite Financials is helpful, it’s not essential.
